MASK: HIDDEN FACES
— What we show are pieces; what we hide are the real truths beneath.
I embarked on a series of works exploring the concept of masks, focusing on the perception of the self hidden beneath a constructed identity or beneath emotions left unspoken. It is akin to donning a succession of masks to align with shifting societal expectations and norms. While masks may be worn casually for social occasions or playfully as costumes during events like parties or Halloween, they also carry deep cultural and historical significance. Across both modern and ancient societies, masks have been central to rituals, ceremonies, and communal rites. My ongoing series of works delves into the many facets of masking, ranging from ancient practices to contemporary contexts, and examines how these coverings shape our interactions and the dynamics of social gatherings.
